Dua for Happiness and Peace: Seven Supplications for a Settled Heart

dua for happiness and peace

There is no single dua in the Sunnah called “the dua for happiness.” What there is instead is better: a set of short supplications that ask for the things happiness is actually made of. Contentment with what Allah has decided. A heart that is not at war with itself. Peace after prayer. Good in this life without losing the next one. Say those and the happiness takes care of itself.

Here are seven, all from the Quran or the Sunnah, each with the Arabic, a transliteration, and the meaning. They are short on purpose. A dua you can say in ten seconds is a dua you will still be saying in ten years.

1. The dua of contentment

Said three times in the morning and three times in the evening. In Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi.

Transliteration

Raditu billahi rabban, wa bil-islami dinan, wa bi Muhammadin nabiyya.

Meaning

I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad ﷺ as my Prophet.

Most unhappiness is a quiet argument with how things are. This dua ends the argument before the day starts. The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever says it in the morning and evening, it is a duty upon Allah to please them on the Day of Judgement.

2. Peace after every prayer

The Prophet ﷺ said this immediately after the salam of every prayer. In Muslim.

Transliteration

Allahumma antas-salam, wa minkas-salam, tabarakta ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram.

Meaning

O Allah, You are As-Salam (peace), and from You is all peace. Blessed are You, O Possessor of majesty and honour.

Five times a day, this is the first thing said after the prayer ends. Peace is one of Allah’s names, and peace comes from Him. That is the whole dua.

3. Good in this life and the next

From the Quran, 2:201. The Prophet ﷺ made this dua more than any other, according to Anas, may Allah be pleased with him.

Transliteration

Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina ‘adhaban-nar.

Meaning

Our Lord, grant us good in this life and good in the next life, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

It asks for happiness in this life directly. Hasanah in the dunya covers everything good: health, a kind spouse, enough money, a calm home. The Prophet ﷺ, who could have asked for anything, asked for this most.

4. Allah is enough for me

Seven times in the morning and evening. From the Quran, 9:129, and in Abu Dawud as a daily remembrance.

Transliteration

Meaning

Allah is sufficient for me. None has the right to be worshipped except Him. Upon Him I rely, and He is Lord of the exalted throne.

A great deal of unrest comes from feeling that everything depends on you. This dua says it does not. Seven times, morning and evening, until you believe it.

5. The light-weight glorification

The Prophet ﷺ said that two phrases are light on the tongue, heavy on the scales, and beloved to the Most Merciful. In Bukhari and Muslim.

Transliteration

Subhanallahi wa bihamdihi, subhanallahil-‘azim.

Meaning

How perfect Allah is, and I praise Him. How perfect Allah is, the Mighty.

Say it a hundred times a day. Walking, cooking, waiting. It fills the empty minutes that anxiety would otherwise fill.

6. Hope in Allah’s mercy

Taught for the one in distress, in Abu Dawud, and just as good for the one who is simply tired.

Transliteration

Meaning

O Allah, it is Your mercy that I hope for, so do not leave me in charge of my affairs even for the blink of an eye, and rectify for me all of my affairs. None has the right to be worshipped except You.

“Rectify for me all of my affairs” is as close to a dua for happiness as the Sunnah gets. It asks Allah to fix everything, and it admits that we cannot.

7. Refuge from anxiety and sorrow

In Bukhari. This one names the things that take peace away and asks for protection from them.

Transliteration

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan, wal-‘ajzi wal-kasal, wal-bukhli wal-jubn, wa dala’id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.

Meaning

O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men.

We wrote about this one at length in Dua for Anxiety and Stress. It belongs here too, because peace is partly the absence of the things on this list.

How to build them into a day

Do not try to learn all seven this week. Here is a day that uses four of them, and it takes under five minutes total.

After Fajr: the dua of contentment, three times, and Hasbiyallah, seven times.
After every prayer: Allahumma antas-salam.
In the gaps: Subhanallahi wa bihamdihi, as many as you can.
Before sleep: Rabbana atina.

Do that for a month and then add the others. The goal is a heart that reaches for remembrance by reflex, because a heart that does that has peace most of the time and knows where to get it the rest of the time.

A note on the dunya

None of these duas promise that nothing bad will happen. Several of them assume something already has. The happiness they ask for is the kind that survives bad news, because it rests on Allah rather than on circumstances. That is the only kind worth asking for, and it is the only kind that lasts.

The daily remembrances here are laid out as a thirty-day tracker in the Ramadan Planner 2027, and the shorter ones are in the 30 Everyday Duas for Kids set so the whole house can learn them together.
